SPLAT®: Specialized Pheromone Lure Application Technology
- UV resistant
- Rain-fast
- Controlled release
- Mechanical application
- Degrades in the field over time
Once applied in the field, water in SPLAT begins to evaporate and the dollop shrinks, better adhering to the application surface. As the water continues to evaporate, molecules of active ingredients migrate from the center to the surface of the dollop, slowly emitting over time.

The point sources of SPLAT, known as dollops, can be applied in various sizes.
In general, the release rate depends on the size of the dollop. Smaller dollops release active ingredients much more quickly than larger dollops. A simple analogy is to compare two ice cubes: if one is left alone, it will melt much more slowly than one that is smashed into pieces and spread out. The it’s the same amount of material, but it evaporates at much different rates. This property allows for the control of active ingredients by controlling the droplet, or dollop, size during applications.
SPLAT provides numerous advantages over other pheromone-based products, many of which depend on plastic dispensers or microencapsulated spray formulations that have to be reapplied frequently.
Depending on the product, SPLAT allows for aerial applications and provides season long control without the need to retrieve plastic dispensers or deal with frequent reapplications, all while providing a uniform distribution of active ingredients throughout the treated area.
With labor costs on the rise, the need for season long control that can be applied mechanically is essential for the future of forestry and agriculture.
